The Victim Of ATM Robbery
The 38-year-old woman bank officer, who was brutally attacked on the head with a machete at an unguarded ATM kiosk, was left paralysed on her right side while there was no trace of her assailant.

Amid mounting angry reactions over the brazen attack, a rattled Karnataka government sought to crack the whip on erring banks, telling them to shut ATM booths unless they provide security.

Bill to Legalise UIDAI


With the Supreme Court on Tuesday declining to modify its order that the Aadhaar scheme was not compulsory for availing benefits of government schemes, the Union Cabinet has cleared a bill granting statutory status to UIDAI and providing legal backing to the Unique Identity numbers to Indian residents.

Sources said the Union Cabinet approved the National Identification Authority of India Bill, 2010, with some amendments, which will now be placed before the Rajya Sabha for discussion and passing in the Winter Session.

Rs Hits 66.30/$, FM Hits Reform Button

Union finance minister P.Chidambaram said on Tuesday that the government had approved a raft of infrastructure projects worth `1.83 lakh crore in order to revive the investment cycle and restore investors' confidence as the rupee fell to a new lifetime low.

“The message we are sending is that the investment cycle has restarted, and we are pushing it. It is gathering pace,“ Mr Chidambaram said. The finance minister added that the government will endeavour to improve investor sentiments to help the rupee find its appropriate level.
