Srikalahasti Relic Collapses

Three years after the 500year-old Rajagopuram at Srikalahasti temple collapsed, one of the kalasams atop the entrance Gopuram of the temple dislodged and fell on the ground on Thursday evening. At around 4 pm the kalasam, weighing around 10 kg, collapsed into the interior complex of the temple from the 30foot-high entrance gopuram, said to have been built about 800 years ago.

The limestone and claybrick kalasam broke into pieces after falling. Thankfully no one was hurt as there was not much rush at the temple when the incident took place given the on going Samaikyandhra agitations.
